top priority
The presidential inauguration was a historical moment we will not soon forget. It was special watching as a family, having made several day trips to view our nation's history in D.C. since our move out here. The inauguration was a good "first" for our kids since we didn't pay much attention to the last one, and even our eldest was too little to remember the one before that. How awesome to hear so much reference to Jesus Christ - still our nation's God - both in triumphant song and prayer, as well as in speech! It is truly a sweet gift to be able to give our kids a sense of patriotism I knew and felt thirty years ago. We live in a different era for sure, but this patriotism is bedded on the same rock. The waves that have beat against this House have not succeeded in tearing it down so far. Praise the Lord for that!
"America! America! God shed his grace on thee. And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!"
"I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! Then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea" - Isaiah 48:17-18
We have been given back this commander-in-chief who is doing his part the best he knows how along with those he surrounds himself with. My job is to keep my faith and trust these truths found throughout Scripture. Though it's no secret how much pride gets in our way, and how many among us are in opposition, I have the freedom to rejoice and pursue peace from none other but the Prince of Peace. For this reason, I'm incredibly thankful.
The Apostle Paul, way back in the first century, exhorted believers to keep prayer, intercessions, and giving of thanks as top priority "for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." - 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Don't forget to pray!
